With the Covid 19 pandemic still not under control, it was only a matter of time before more of the sports world was affected. Today the Atlantic 10 conference announced changes to its upcoming fall schedule.
The sports included in the postponement are as follows: men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s and women’s cross country and volleyball. The fall competitive schedules for men’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and women’s rowing will also be postponed, as will non-traditional competition seasons for baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse. While this does pose a problem for fans and athletes their are plans to revisit the hope of sports in some capacity.
What Happens Next
All hope is not lost though. Conference Leadership has agreed to a “look in window” sometime in the middle of September. At which point they will assess the risk levels concerning the virus and discuss wether a start up is possible with a shortened season. If conditions are proven to be safe athletes will then begin to use practice facilities where they can train and prepare to play.
That being said all is not lost as far as fall sports are concerned. Also basketball is scheduled to start in November if everything is safe so there is that to look forward to as well.
