This week we finally get the first major of the season. The PGA Championship rolls into TPC Harding Park, in San Fransico California. It is the first major ever hosted at this course. It has previously held a Presidents Cup (2009) and two other events (2015 and 2005) won by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. Brooks Koepka is trying to become only the second golfer to ever win three consecutive PGA Championships (Walter Hagen being the other 1924-1927).
Koepka along with Justin Thomas are your betting favorites at 10-1 each. Bryson DeChambeau is next at 11-1. Other notables are McIlroy at 14-1, Tiger Woods at 22-1, and Jason Day at 40-1.
I built my lineup for the event over on FantasyDraft this morning. I feel I have developed another winning lineup. Here are some of the players I feel you should consider to anchor your lineups. While I use the Fantasy Draft values, these players should be considered on all sites when building your lineups.
I am anchoring my lineup with DeChambeau ($16600). Prior to his 30th place finish last week and his missed cut at the Memorial, DeChambeau had been on an absolute tear. He had finished in the top 8 in his first four events of the restart. His game has been poised and ready to win that first major. And I firmly believe this is the week he gets his name on the major winner list. Not only is he my lineups anchor but if I was to lay a bet, it would be on him at that 11-1 line to win the entire thing.
Next on my list to watch out for is Abraham Ancer ($14000). He is probably the best golfer on tour right now that no-one pays attention to or even knows who he is. He is the 21st ranked golfer in the world and has four top 15 finishes since the restart. He has yet to miss a cut in the five events he has played. He scores a load of points and will most likely have a lower percentage of ownership (which I love).
Xander Schauffele and Gary Woodland are two other names I really love to score big and be in contention this week. They are always in the thick of things and could be primed for a deep run. They have made 11 out of the 12 cuts combined and have 4 top 9 finishes between them. Their respective prices of $15900 and $14300 are great values as well.
My sleeper and darling pick though is Ricky Werenski. He is only ranked 127th in the world, but is coming in on fire. He finished 3rd at the 3M OPEN and last week won the Barracuda Championship (you did not know there was a second event last week did you?) His win last week earned him this spot in the PGA Championship, he is playing great golf, he has not missed a cut since the restart, and at $11800 he should not be skipped over.
As always have fun making your picks, mix it up a bit, and MAKE SOME MONEY! Football season is around the corner and you can be building your bankrolls like me for when the real business picks up!
