The Eagles opened up the scoring with a touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Zach Ertz. Philly moved down the field with no problems gobbling up chunks of yardage on big plays from DeSean Jackson and rookie Jalen Reagor.
Jake Elliot added a field goal, after a huge bomb from Wentz to Reagor, and the birds grabbed a quick 10-0 lead near the end of the quarter.
The Washington defense stiffened in the second quarter as they got their fourth sack in the beginning of the quarter. However the Eagles were able to add to their lead, with a touchdown pass from Wentz to the other tight end Dallas Goedert.
Philly kept the defensive pressure on all quarter, and made key stops on back to back third downs right before the half. However an awful Wentz interception lead to to a Washington TD late in the half and Philly leading 17-7 going to the break.
The Eagles started the second half with a three and out. Wentz was unable to find his target on consecutive deep throws. But, they did pinned Washington deep on their ensuing defensive possession. Wentz would yet another bad pick on the next series and put Washington in excellent position to bring the game within three 17-14. A failed 4th down attempt ended a promising Philly drive and Washington ends the third quarter on the move just down three.
Washington tied the game at 17 with a field goal early in the fourth. A slight relief for Eagles fans after they were given a short field. Philly failed to move the ball again giving up a 7th sack and Washington marched right down to take a touchdown lead on their 24th straight point of the game. Another stop and another sack, this one from Ryan Kerrigan resulted and a Washington field goal and Philly found themselves down 10 with just over 3 to play. And that’s how it would end.
