The Philadelphia Union came in to Subaru Park with one thing on their minds, and that is a win. A victory Sunday afternoon would clinch the one seed in the playoffs and nab Philly the Supporter’s Shield for the first time in the team history. The New England Revolution will try to play spoiler.
The Union had their fare share of scoring opportunities in the first half, but found themselves without a goal well in to the 15’. Foul after foul seemed to negate any offensive
momentum that Philly had. Until the 43’ when Sergio Santos scored off of a rebound to put the home team up 1-0. And that’s how the first half would end, with the Union holding a 1 point lead.
The Union spent the first part of the second half playing excellent defense. They kept the Revolution away from replacement goalie Matt Freese. Freese would later get some support in the way of a goal from Cory Burke in the 69’ to push the score to 2-0. That’s all Philadelphia would need, as they would cruise the rest of the way and secure the 2 goal victory.
