For the second time in about a week, NBA champion and 76ers new back up center Dwight Howard spoke with the media and again did not disappoint. In a very calming and centered way about him, Howard navigated questions about leadership, what it takes to win, and how he thinks Ben and Joel can thrive together
Some key points that stood out during the Q and A with Dwight:
- Had to change up his offseason work out a little due to limited time. But he likes to keep himself in shape, and he had the urge to get back in the gym =.
- Shake Milton has stood out to him so far in practice. Likes his attitude and demeanor
- Dwight has worked with Joel a little, says he wants to push Joel the best he can. He thinks Embiid can be one of the best players of his era. Also notes Joel is in great shape.
Dwight talked about his time with the Lakers, and how when he got there he promised himself he would do whatever it took to win a championship, even if it meant lower minutes and points. Says he is willing to bring that same attitude here with the Sixers. Howard also mentioned how he wanted to use his experience to guide both Ben and Joel. He mentioned a few times how he would like them to know not to take anything for granted, that an NBA career is short, and they need to take advantage of the opportunities they have now.
Dwight, by all accounts, is saying all the right things, is ready to accept his role, and come in and be a voice and a veteran to help get this team over the top. Whether it will translate to the court here in Philly, is yet to be seen, but this version of Dwight Howard, a centered and humbled version, could really benefit this team both on and off the court.
