Eagles Edge Saints 24-21 in Hurts Debut

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a quarterback change. Jalen Hurts gets the start under center as Philly takes on the New Orleans Saints. While the playoffs are highly unlikely a win today would put the Birds right back in the conversation in the weak NFC East.

First Quarter.

Philadelphia started the game well. They were able to move the ball down the field although, they were stopped on 4th down. They forced the Saints in to a missed field goal on their second possession and capitalized on the ensuing drive. A long gain from Hurts to Jalen Reagor, gave way to a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery on fourth down in the red zone. And the Eagles took a rare first quarter lead 7-0.

The Eagles defense picked up where they left off in the first quarter, getting much needed stops on 3rd down. However they were unable to take advantage on the other end. The next time the offense would take the field it would be off the heels of just their 4th interception of the year. Philly would come away with a field goal and push the lead to 10-0. Miles Sanders would add to the lead with 82 yard scamper for a touchdown. And thatโ€™s how the half would end. Eagles up 17-0

Third Quarter.

Philly started the third quarter with a three and out. To make matters worse the Saints scored to cut the lead to 10 at 17 to 7. The Eagles would fail to convert on fourth down on their next possession opening the door for a New Orleans comeback attempt. The Saints would take advantage of a rash of injuries to the Eagles defensive backfield, and score again to reduce their deficit to just 3 points. And after three quarters weโ€™d have a score of 17-14.

Fourth Quarter.

Philadelphia started the fourth quarter with a huge defensive play. Josh Sweat came up with the sack fumble to turn momentum around. The Eagles would feed off the defense and put together their best drive of the half, capped of with Sanders second touchdown of the game. With the score Philly pushed their lead back to 10. The Saints would add a touchdown after a Hurts fumble but a failed onside kick would seal the deal and an Eagles win.

Final Score: Eagles 24 Saints 21
