The 12 Days of Christmas is one of the most recognizable carols in the Christmas lexicon, so we’re pairing it with the most recognizable jerseys.
Rob Manoff, Rob Whitney, and myself aka the voices behind the Write The Radio podcast are embarking on the 12 Jersey GOATS of Christmas. From the partridge in the pear tree to twelve drummers drumming we’re going 1 through 12 to find the best player who ever wore the number.
How it’s going down is simple. We’ve narrowed down a rep from each of the 4 major sports and throw a poll up on Twitter. Then the real experts weigh in and select the final winner. We’ll put up a post announcing the winner. Later in the countdown, we’ll announce our contest winners as well.
Oh, that’s right, we’re doing a giveaway as well. That part is simple too. All it takes is 3 simple steps. 1. Vote in the polls. 2. Retweet the poll. 3. Follow the Last Out Media Twitter account.
12 Drummers Drumming: TB12’s A Coming
He is inescapable. Like the stranglehold he had on the league and TV stations, Tom Brady dominated our most heavily voted on poll. He dispatched the likes of Jarome Iginla, Roberto Alomar, and John Stockton from the jump.
Obviously, when it came to running with the poll, Tom didn’t drop the ball as he did in Super Bowl 52. Despite losing SBLII to Nick Foles and the Eagles, and two earlier Super Bowls to Eli Manning and the Giants, Brady has 6 Super Bowl wins, and has been the MVP of 4 of those.
Brady’s 20-year career began with an injury to Drew Bledsoe thrusting him into starting for the New England Patriots, and that run includes 3 NFL MVP Awards, an NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award, 2x NFL Offensive Player of the Year, 14x Pro Bowl Selections, 3x Yards Leader, 2x Passing Rating Leader, 4x Passing Touchdowns leader, 5 All-Pro team selections, and membership on 2 all-decade teams as well as the NFL’s 100th-anniversary team. He also is locked in a battle for most touchdowns thrown with Drew Brees.
Brady left New England for this season, and so far has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at a 9-5 record with a playoff birth all but locked up.
So for our final list we have…
#12- Tom Brady, #11- Norm Van Brocklin, #10- Walt Fraizer #9- Gordie Howe, #8 Kobe Bryant, #7-Mickey Mantle, #6 Bill Russell, #5-Joe DiMaggio, #4-Bobby Orr, #3- Babe Ruth, #2- Moses Malone, and #1- Oscar Robertson.
We hope everyone has enjoyed the list. If you have objections, we want to know them! We might’ve missed Festivus but you can always air your grievances at us. Until then have a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
