Jay Wright Tests COVID Positive: Villanova Basketball Suspended

The Villanova Wildcats announced Sunday afternoon that they are pausing basketball activities after head coach Jay Wright’s positive COVID-19 test. 

An additional staff member is also have said to have tested positive. Jay Wright released a statement saying that “Our players have been very diligent and disciplined with all of the COVID protocols. Unfortunately, we have had two staff members test positive. I am one of them. My symptoms are mild, and we remain connected as a team and staff by phone and Zoom.” 

This throws the future schedule into flux. The school had already postponed a game against St. John’s that was scheduled for December 30th so the players could have a short holiday break. Now the next scheduled game against Xavier on January 2nd has been postponed. 

Villanova also has games against DePaul and Marquette on the schedule for January 5th and January 8th respectively. Villanova is ranked #5 in the nation and is currently sitting atop the Big East conference.
