Before last night’s game the 76ers held a one game lead over the Brooklyn Nets for first place in the Eastern Conference. The team with the best record for each conference has their coaching staff as all star coaches. With a win, the 76ers would clinch that record and earn their coach the honor.
Doc was asked during pregame about the potential of being a coach in the all star game to which he said he would prefer to golf.

Says he wishes No. 1 seed coach got to pick any coach they wanted to have to do it — he claims he would nominate Gregg Popovich
Well coach, you can thank Joel Embiid for your lack of golf opportunity. Embiid dropped a career high 50 points in route to a 112-105 win over the Chicago Bulls and cemented Rivers’ position on the sidelines for the All Star game, a game in which Embiid will also be a starter.
The honor was announced in a statement from NBA PR.
Rivers has the 76ers in first place and looking like title contenders. He is the first 76ers coach since Larry Brown in 2001 to earn the honor. The Sixers went to the finals that year.
